Swim Safe

In Te Ngahere we had a swim safe lesson on dry land. Our host was Tracey
and she was teaching us five ways to stay safe when your on a boat. First
she said to us that we needed to have a flare gun or a flare, if you don’t
know what a flare gun or a flare is well a flare gun is a gun that shoots
flares into the sky then a  red smoke stays in the sky like a cloud. A flare
is this thing that looks like the firework that you hold in you hand.
(Caution KEEP AWAY FROM KIDS!) Second you need to wear a life jacket
when you are on a boat, A life jacket can make you float when you fall off
your boat. The third rule is you need to know the coast guard channel. If
you don’t know the coast guard channel is well it is 16 and for russell it is
3. Four let someone know where you are going, how long you will be and
how much people are with you, you need to say this to someone because
if you get stuck someone can come rescue you. Five check the weather
you need to check the weather because  if the weather is good then you
will have a great time out on the boat. I think that Tracey taught us a good
lesson for when you go on a boat. Do you have any ways to keep safe on a
boat?

STEAM Challenge

In Te Ngahere we have started doing STEAM, if you don’t know what
STEAM means well you came to the right blog, ( S stands for science,T
stands for technology, E stands for education, A stands for Arts and M
stands for medical. Our steam challenge was who could make the
tallest tower out of two pieces of news paper. We were allowed to
use two pieces of newspaper and 30 cm of tape. When we were
given a time of 20 minutes to build the news paper towers. We
could also jump in  group of three or less. The people in my group
m where Ricardo, Dale and also me (Jahrell). Once our time was up
we measured whos newspaper tower was the highest. Another
group won but it was all good because we had fun. We were learning to
build a tower with a limited equipment and balancing it so it would stand.
What would you do to make the highest newspaper tower that stands?

Te Reo Maori

Kia ora bloggers, In Te Ngahere we have been learning to repeat Te Reo Maori words from a video like how to have a simple conversation, We had  to listen to a three minute video in Te Reo and then we had to try to fill the gaps in a doc that the teacher made for us. We were allowed to jump in a group of three or less. I jumped in a group of two because I find it much easier to work with one person. After we filled in the missing gaps we had to make a DLO and it had to teach and explain to others what we were learning. I found making the story fun because we were allowed to pick what we wanted to create. The challenge that I came over was trying to learn how to say the Te Reo Maori words and translating them into english words. I think I improved saying more Te Reo Maori words.

Math DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been doing math DLO’s, DLO means Digital Learning Object. My
DLO was about Multiplying 2 Digit Numbers, I found it hard to make the DLO because
my friends were asking me for help and I was trying to do my DLO. The DLO had to
have an example in it, explain how you do it step by step, why you should do this
strategy, how it works and how to do this strategy.

How you do it: A question you can use: 77x97.
First you find an question, then you times the right bottom number with the top right
number and then you place the first number at the top left corner and the other
number underneath the bottom, right number. After that you times the bottom
right number with top left number and then. Once you have done that you place
a 0 at the bottom of the 7. After that you time 7 by 7 and then you place the
answer at the bottom of the x and the 9. Once you done that you plus all of the
number together and then you write it on your math book and then you get the answer.

I found it hard at the beginning because I didn't understand what we had to do but
then I did understand it because my friends helped me learn how to do it.

Te Reo Maori

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about things in our class
room but we had to say them in Te reo maori. We had to make
an animation with your writing buddy. My writing buddy is Mark
S so I had to go with him, once we made our animation we had
to learn the kupu then we got to screencastify it. We learnt te
reo maori words about the class and stationary.

Energize with Whaea Gina

On Tuesday we went to energize, our host is Whaea Gina. We
learnt about Every day drinks, sometimes drinks and never have
drinks. Frist the year 6’s went to see Gina and then the year 7
and 8’s went. Whaea Gina said that coke had 10 teaspoons of
sugar in it. We got learnt that only water and milk were every
day drinks, we also found that most of the energy drinks had
caffeine inside of it except that E2 does not have caffeine in it.
Once we got told all of the stuff about drinks the year 7 and 8’s
came over for there turn to talk to Whaea Gina.

Steam Project

In Te Ngahere we have been doing steam, the project that we had to do
was make a hoop glider and see how far it could fly then we had to
make a modified hoop glider and see if that would go further that the normal hoop glider. I found out that S stands for science, T stands for technology, E stands Engineering, A stands for Art and M stands for math. Before we made our hoop glider we had to create a plan, in the plan we had to put a method, variables, results and equipment. After we put all of those into a doce we got to make hoop. When we made our hoop glider we went out and tested it. After we tested them we made a modified hoop glider, our modified hoop glider had one more hoop on it. Seconds later we had a look at our results and seen if our normal hoop glider would be better that the modified hoop glider. We found out that the normal hoop glider was better than the modified hoop glider because the modified hoop glider was going straight down.  We were finally finished after we put of results on to our doc.

Rippa Rugby

On June the 4th some of the year 5,s and 6,s  went to rippa rugby at kaikohe rugby grounds. We went there to play rippa rugby and to win all of the games that we had to play. The first game that we played was against the yellow team, we played them because the team that we were meant to play was not there at the game. When the team that we meant to play was there  it was half time so we played them for 15 minutes. At the end of the game the coach told us the score. He said that we won by 8 points because the score was 11 to 3. We had a half an hour brake before we went back on the muddy field. When we went back on the soggy field we did paper scissors rock the other team won and they gotta start with the ball. When the game started the whole team dashed to the player with the ball and torn there tag off. When I had the ball I made one little mistake I ran straight into the other team. The game finished and we had a  long rest when we finished the rest. Two games later we got into the finals the team we played was the team that was coming second in the pool that me and my team where in. When the game finished the team asked the couch what the score was, He said that we one the score was 8 to 2. The whole team yelled yes we are going to the finals. After we won we went back to school to do a little bit of learning. That the bell went off and it was home time.

Science Fair Project.

In Te Ngahere we have been doing Science fair projects. We paired up into
a group of three and two. We all got some time to think about what we
wanted to do but it had to be a life problem. After we thought about what
we where going to do we had to fill out a doc that had a lot of questions like
what is your method and what is your hypothesis. After we filled the doc of
stress full questions we started to do our projects. First we had to get our
materials then we got all our things that we needed we started to make our
project. Kids where doing projects like (how long can a apple stay fresh in
different wrappings, how long can pens ink last for and what is the best
fertilizer to use to make plants grow the fastest). My experiment was how
long can an apple stay fresh for. That was all we had to do.

Rippa Rugby

Kia ora bloggers this week we went to Rippa Rugby at Hikurangi. Our host
was Haley Jane. They thought that we would not be at the semi finals
because we are the Underdogs. We got called the Underdogs because we
were doing know training at school. We won our first 3 games but then we
tied with Welsford but then we lost to them. When we played Welsford we
tried our best but we lost by one try! When Haley Jane wrote the score
down we ended up with more points that Welsford. When we got into
the real semi finals we got pulled out because we got given some bonus
points and that was against the rules. Our whole team was gutted that we
did not get to go to Wellington but we can all ways try again.

Birthday a Auckland

On June the 8th to June the 9th my Mum, Dad, Nanny and Poppa and myself went to Auckland for my Poppas and my birthday. When we got to Auckland we went to our hotel and we then chose our bed. Next we went to the arcade and played a tun of games, I liked watching the people dance on the dancing platforms, one person got to level 20 in 10 minutes or something like that. We stayed at the arcade until 9 o'clock at night. When we finished at the arcade we went to get some dinner at the market. It was getting later and later so we went back to the hotel. When I looked at the time it was 10 at night. In the morning we went to the mall and we looked around for around 2 hours, then we went to get a lot of food. We went to the market and then we left to go back home. On my way back home we stopped at Whangarei and we had some yummy food from  KFC. We went back to Paihia and I slept most of the way home. That was pretty much it so seeya.

Math DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been creating a math DLO. Our class did doubling and halving or trebling and thirding for a our digital learning object. You use this strategy to make the problem easy to figure out or solve. For an example if you had 22 x 4 you would divide the 22 by 2 and that would make 11 and you would times the 4 by 2 which would make 8, than your problem would be 11 x 8. When you use this strategy you find the number that you think will be the best to double and half. I liked doubling and halving because it was fun and I like math. Next time I think I can get more work done and put more examples into my DLO.

Say Yes To Success

On Monday the 11th of March we had a group called Say Yes To Success. The guys name was Robett he was the guy that talked to us about taking the right path. The right path is the positive people and the bad path is the negative people. The thing that I liked was when he asked us if we new what his first job was, and he would give us 20$ if we got it right. No one got it right because we all thought  it had a ball in it, but his first job was being a professional at snowboarding in the winter. Next time I think I will ask more questions and try to guess his job so I can get the 20$ He asked us if we would take the negative path or the positive parth and most of us said the positive path. That was about it from him and the group. But you should take the positive path every day.

Raranga Matahiko - Waitangi

On Monday the 18th of February we were in the whare with Whaea Kerry and Whaea Monika. We had to make trees, and a hoe, the teachers made a waka for us. We made the trees on Tinkercad. We made the trees because our class name is Te Ngahere (The Bush). We also made the tree for our identity it relates to our identity because our class name it Te Naghere. Next Whaea Kerry and Whaea Monika made a waka so we all could fit on it and all of the year 6’s to use teamwork to get the land a see all of the things that we made. When the waka got on the land we saw some trees and our class made one or two trees, on tinkercad. My tree was a dead tree and a Xmas tree. We also made some animals to go with Te Ngahere. We made a video with all of the things that we made and put it all in the video. We made the waka, trees and hoe for our identity.

Ki o rahi

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about our math. The math that we did was Doubling and Halving. For example ( 2x10=20 if you double 2 and half 10 it will make the same number.

In Te Ngahere the year 5 and 6’s when to Ki o rahi just like Me and the year 7 and 8’s did. When it was our time to shine we all jumped in a car and zoomed off. Once we got to kaikohe we ran on the field and set up our tarp. We got split in to groups, team 1 and team 2. When we played team 2 set up to watch us play. We lost to our first game but we had fun and carried on our fun as day.

Treaty Grounds Trip😎

On Thursday and Friday we went  to the Treaty Grounds and we also learnt about a lot of activities to do on our Chromebook. The best thing that most people liked was the VR, I think they all liked it because not that many people have it and they liked the green screen because you can make it that you are on fire and, you can jump off the rail on the road, Next time we go there I will finish my Sculpture on Sculp GL. The other thing that we made was a Waka and a Hoe.

Magic Show

On Wednesday the 27th a magician came to our school and showed us his skill. We had to pay 4$ to get in. When it started he said “ Hello and welcome to my magic show my show is call eat bright be bright”. We went to learn about what we should eat mostly and not eat. He did his first magic trick, the trick was cool but the second one was beater. He pulled a dove out of a box and put it in the cage. Then he pulled a ton of veggies and fruit out of a stocking, he asked us where they go on the plate. Ten minutes later he called a kid up to put a costume on. When it was time to pack up the magic man made some more birds come out of the cage and he let the rabbit out as well.
